The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has raised more than £1,300 for Movember, with funds still coming in.
Nine men took the Movember pledge, committing to growing and grooming a moustache over the course of November with the aim of collectively raising £1,000 for the leading charity. The Company held a judging day at the end of the month, with Engineering Workshop Manager Bob Docherty awarded the top ‘tache prize and Technical Manager Juan Qualtrough named runner up.
An office bake-off was organised too, providing all members of the team with the opportunity to get involved in fundraising activities. Staff were invited to bring in home-baked goods to be judged and sold, generating an additional £320 for Movember. The charity is aiming to change the face of men’s health on a global scale, focusing on mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
Brian Thomson, Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Managing Director, was among the team that sported a moustache throughout November. He said: ‘Men are dying younger than women for largely preventable reasons, and by 2030 Movember is aiming to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25%. We fully support this ambitious goal and the positive impact that Movember is having around the world.
‘I am proud of everyone in the Company’s commitment to Movember. From those that grew - in some cases questionable - facial fuzz, to everyone that participated in the office bake-off or simply donated – there’s been a real sense of camaraderie in the office.
