Luggage and equipment

There is no charge for luggage carried in private vehicles, including towbar racks and rooftop boxes, so long as it fits within the booked limits (ie height, width, length of vehicle) and does not exceed a safe weight limit. Foot passengers may check in any amount of luggage so long as each item does not exceed 23Kg. Passengers are responsible for getting their own luggage to and from the carousels and must be able to comfortably carry it themselves. All items of personal luggage should be well labelled and identifiable. Checked in items are not accessible for the duration of the crossing.

The carriage of fuel containers and empty fuel containers is restricted under international safety legislation. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency permit a maximum of only one 5 litre UN Approved container of fuel per vehicle. Passengers wishing to carry a larger volume of fuel or larger empty containers must declare these to us at least 24 hours in advance at [email protected] or on 01624 661661 and may be required to travel on a designated Dangerous Goods sailing. Failure to declare may result in confiscation or refusal to travel.

You can take a maximum of three butane/propane gas cylinders, with a combined weight that does not exceed 47 kg, for the purposes of lighting, heating and cooking, in your vehicle. All cylinders should be adequately secured against the movement of the ship, be stored away from sources of heat and ignition and must be shut off during the sailing. Opened single use gas canisters must not be brought on the vessel.

We have luggage handling facilities for foot passengers. Luggage is checked in at the departure terminal and is stowed on the car deck with no access during the voyage.
