Isle of Man Steam Packet Company vessel Ben-my-Chree is now not estimated to return to service until the end of the month.

During its scheduled period in dry dock, detailed inspections of the vessel have identified that specialist third-party work is necessary to repair stern tube bearings on the ship. The specialist contractors have now indicated that the scope of work required will take longer than initially anticipated.

Until she returns, fast craft Manannan will continue to operate daytime passenger services while MV Arrow will provide overnight freight services.

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said:

"We will naturally keep all passengers informed over the next few weeks and, subject to the work being completed, are hopeful the Ben-my-Chree will be back in service by the end of May.
It is important we use this quieter period to comprehensively attend to this unexpected issue. The travel restrictions still in place due to COVID-19 helps ensure that progressing this now will cause minimum disruption.
Once the full testing of control systems, equipment and safety checks are completed, we look forward to welcoming her back, fully serviced and ready for, hopefully, a busy season.
In the meantime, Manannan and Arrow will continue to maintain our passenger services and our ongoing commitment to transport essential food and goods to the Island community."

Steam Packet Company Reservations Teams will be contacting affected passengers.
